Accountant

Performs a wide variety of duties relative to the processing and reconciliation of various types of receipts, including those obtained directly from customers and those relating to third party collections, to ensure they are correctly accounted in the Unified Financial Management System (UFMS) Reviews documents for validity and accuracy of accounting data to ensure the proper posting to general ledger accounts in the accounting system Enters receipts into the accounting system to ensure proper allotments are received Coordinates and advises the Director of Accounts Receivable of overall operations and refers major problems for resolution Responsible for processing and approving receipt of funds through UFMS To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
A. Degree:
A degree in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. or B. Combination of education and
Experience:
at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Your background must also include one of the following:
Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. Applicants who meet the basic requirements described in the individual occupational requirements are fully qualified for the entry grade GS-5. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM

GS-07:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Professional knowledge of the concepts and principles of accounting to do entry-level work designed to reconcile receipts for a variety of purposes and experience in working with systems, practices, regulations and operations of accounts. or Completion of one full year of graduate level education in a field that is directly related to the position or Superior Academic Achievement. GS-09:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Professional knowledge of accounting principles and knowledge of the application of accounting theory and principles in relation to accounts. Ability to apply analytical reasoning in the analysis of reconciliation of accounts. or Completion of 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a field that is directly related to the position. Note:
Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. All education must be directly related to the position. Superior Academic Achievement is completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university that meets one of the following:
1) Class standing -Graduated in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision; 2) Grade-point average (G.P.A.) - Grade-point average of:
a. 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or b. 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements:
Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
