Our client, in the software industry, is seeking a SQL DBA for a 6 week project (could go longer). Pay is based on experience and is competitive. The SQL DBA must understand high availability and know how to implement SSRS. The SQL DBA will also need to:
Implement SQL redundancy -- the client is running SQL Server 2005. This version of SQL offers log shipping and database mirroring as high-availability options. In the past the client has used log-shipping with custom built failover scripts. However, Database Mirroring may be a better option. Additionally, SQL server is licensed with SPLA, so we are entitled to upgrade to the latest version of SQL. Upgrading SQL is not necessarily a part of this project because of potential complexity of introducing application-level incompatibilities, however the client would be open to upgrading if it will make the implementation of high-availability easier.
Implement recoverability. The client maintains online full backups, daily differentials, and per-minute t-logs.
Implement maintenance (checkdbs, index rebuilds, clear backup history, etc.)
