Overview The Oceanic and Atmospheric Research's (OAR) National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) is one of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) internationally known research laboratories, leading the way in investigations of all aspects of severe weather.
The NSSL, in partnership with the National Weather Service (NWS), is dedicated to improving severe weather warnings and forecasts in order to save lives and reduce property damage.
The mission of NSSL enhances NOAA's capabilities to provide accurate and timely forecasts and warnings of hazardous weather events (e.
g.
, blizzards, ice storms, flash floods, tornadoes, lightning, etc.
).
The NSSL requires IT and technical support services for management, operation, and maintenance of IT systems in support of its mission.
General IT support and project support for research and development of remote and in-situ sensing systems and creation of applications with the resulting data furthering the Laboratory's research mission of understanding severe weather and improving the forecast capability of the NWS through better understanding of these weather events.
Media support including but not limited to the design of technical media tools such as film, web, audio, etc.
to promote the organization and/or its services to the community.
This position requires the ability to solve issues independently and work with other administrators to guarantee transfer of knowledge of work through both written and oral communication.
Strong customer service and organizational skills are also necessary.

Responsibilities Maintains data files and control procedures for a simple system of networked personal computers or for a group of desktop computers linked to a host server.
Responsible for system security and data integrity.
Assigns passwords and monitors use of resources.
May produce periodic business reports, generate output such as labels, letters, and forms, and respond to frequent management request for information.
May require extensive knowledge of Group Policy, Active Directory, Microsoft DNS, DHCP, and other software such as Microsoft Office and similar suites of business applications.
May be a resident expert for applications running on a department-wide LAN or for the entire computer system in a smaller enterprise.
Ability to understand and carry out instructions provided in various forms (written, oral or diagram) Possess the ability to troubleshoot server and workstation hardware across several manufacturers and platforms (including, but no limited to Supermicro, Dell, HP, Apple).
Adaptable to change in process or required activities Professional attitude and work ethic Desire to work either independently or closely with others Results-oriented, and excellent attention to detail Web server administration experience desired, but not required Perform server administration, which includes the addition and deletion of users, control access rights, manage services, and similar tasks.
Maintain datacenter environmental monitoring system by tracking temperature and electricity usage, and report quarterly datacenter usage report to Senior IT.
Monitor and troubleshoot Linux-based RAID configurations, and assist with data-recovery efforts.
Assist with the installation, maintenance, and user support for purchased or 3rd party (free or open source) software.
Maintain a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual containing the installation and configuration procedures, passwords, backup procedures, and contact information (needed when problems occur) for computers, peripheral hardware and software.
Maintain and update hardware/software databases and inventory tracking systems, including a property inventory system, by inputting revised system information for new, moved, changed, or upgraded systems to assist with tracking IT infrastructure assets and inventory.
Qualifications Minimum of 2
years' experience in at least two of the following:
Windows System Administration (Windows 10, Server 2016/2019) VMWare Administration Linux Operating System Administration (RedHat, Oracle, Ubuntu) Apple/Mac OS System Administration SAN/NAS Administration (TrueNAS, NetApp) Extensive knowledge of multiple network protocols including SSH, FTP, NFS, TCP/IP Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under tight deadlines Must be able to pass a thorough background check with fingerprints Recommended Skills Administration Apple Ios Attention To Detail Communication Coordinating Customer Service Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
