Overview Storage/Linux System Administrator The Oceanic and Atmospheric Research's (OAR) National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) is one of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) internationally known research laboratories, leading the way in investigations of all aspects of severe weather.
The NSSL, in partnership with the National Weather Service (NWS), is dedicated to improving severe weather warnings and forecasts in order to save lives and reduce property damage.
The mission of NSSL enhances NOAA's capabilities to provide accurate and timely forecasts and warnings of hazardous weather events (e.
g.
, blizzards, ice storms, flash floods, tornadoes, lightning, etc.
).
The NSSL requires IT and technical support services for management, operation, and maintenance of IT systems in support of its mission.
General IT support and project support for research and development of remote and in-situ sensing systems and creation of applications with the resulting data furthering the Laboratory's research mission of understanding severe weather and improving the forecast capability of the NWS through better understanding of these weather events.
Media support including but not limited to the design of technical media tools such as film, web, audio, etc.
to promote the organization and/or its services to the community.
This position requires the ability to solve issues independently and work with other administrators to guarantee transfer of knowledge of work through both written and oral communication.
Strong customer service and organizational skills are also necessary.

Responsibilities Manage and optimize Linux server and desktop systems to ensure efficient operation and performance Maintain the security and data integrity of all IT systems, with a focus on expertly managing and administering SAN/NAS storage technologies Provide specialized support for public-facing web servers to ensure their availability and functionality Administer user accounts, access rights, and network services Assist in the installation, maintenance, and user support for purchased or third-party software, including free or open-source applications Independently troubleshoot technical issues across the IT infrastructure, with particular attention to SAN/NAS systems, to minimize downtime and maintain smooth operations Administer cluster or parallel computing resources, including scheduling batch jobs for scientific research and managing multiple processing environments Create and maintain a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual for computers, peripherals, and IT systems, documenting installation and configuration procedures, backup processes, and contact information Update and manage hardware/software databases and inventory tracking systems.

(BS/BA) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent related experience) 4
years of Linux System Administration experience, preferably with RHEL/Oracle Linux 1 or more years experience in SAN/NAS Administration, with proficiency in technologies such as TrueNAS, NetApp, or HPE clusterstor Strong knowledge of Linux, shell scripting, and various file systems such as ZFS, NFTS, XFS, ext4, and Lustre In-depth understanding of network protocols such as SSH, FTP, NFS, TCP/IP, iSCSI, Fiber Channel, and Infiniband Familiarity with RAID configurations for data redundancy and performance Background check clearance required (with fingerprints)Preferred skills (optional):

years of experience in SAN/NAS Administration, with proficiency in technologies such as TrueNAS, NetApp, or HPE clusterstor Familiarity with Windows and/or Apple MacOS Administration Understanding of Group Policy, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other relevant software Preferred experience in Local Data Manager (LDM) operations Ability to manage data backups using robotic tape systems Recommended Skills Access Controls Administration Apple Ios Attention To Detail Communication Coordinating Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
